In August 1989, Harvey Boehnlein donated $25,000 to Theda Clark Regional Medical Center for a nursing scholarship program. This generous gift was made in remembrance of his first wife, Ruth Stowe Boehnlein, who was a supervisor of the hospital’s obstetrical department.
Mr. Boehnlein donated another $25,000 in his second wife’s name, Gretchen Johnson Boehnlein, to assist students in continuing their studies. Mr. Boehnlein continues to add to the scholarship fund periodically.
An amount of $1,000 each is awarded to four students from the Fox River Valley area who are pursuing Nursing Degrees.$1,000 scholarships* are awarded to area students who are pursuing Nursing Degrees. The students must be either an incoming freshman registering as full-time and taking credits applicable to the Nursing Degree OR a college student who is continuing his/her education toward either a Bachelors Degree in Nursing or an advanced degree from a recognized and fully accredited professional nursing program.
An awards ceremony was held at Theda Clark Medical Center on Friday, May 9th. Mr. Boehnlein, now almost age 107, was present to personally congratulate each scholarship winner!

Amber Schomisch will graduate from Neenah High School this June and plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Jennifer Hagglund will graduate from Freedom High School in May and has been accepted at Marian College for the 2008 fall semester.
Recipients of the Gretchen Johnson Boehnlein Nursing Scholarship:
Rebekah Kopesky is a graduate of Appleton North High School, and is currently attending Bellin College of Nursing.
Kathryn Hanson is pursuing a nurse practitioner license at the UW-Oshkosh School of Nursing.
