Encouraging health and wellness in our community is a vital part of our mission. Thanks to some very generous donors, Theda Clark Medical Center Foundation awards a number of scholarships to area high school, undergraduate, and graduate students each year, encouraging students to consider careers in health care. Please read below to learn more about the scholarships we offer.
The Dianne Bergstrom, RN - Nursing Scholarship is available through the generosity of John F. Bergstrom, in honor of his wife, Dianne. Dianne began volunteering at Theda Clark Medical Center as a candy striper when she was 15 years old. She continued working at the Hospital during high school and college and continued her studies to become a registered nurse, working at Theda Clark Medical Center for 25 years.
One $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a student from the Fox Valley & surrounding communities who are pursuing registered nursing degrees. The recipients must be entering or continuing education in the fall at a university, college, or technical school that has a recognized and fully-accredited professional nursing program. Informaion regarding the application criteria and deadlines will be available on-line in the spring of each year.

In August 1989, Harvey Boehnlein donated $25,000 to Theda Clark Regional Medical Center for a nursing scholarship program. This generous gift was made in remembrance of his first wife, Ruth Stowe Boehnlein, who was a supervisor of the Hospital’s obstetrical department. Mr. Boehnlein donated another $25,000 in 1992 in memory of his second wife, Gretchen Johnson Boehnlein.
Each year, scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each are awarded to four students from the Fox River Valley area who are pursuing nursing degrees. The students must be either incoming freshmen registered as full-time and taking credits applicable to a nursing degree, OR college students continuing their education toward either a Bachelors Degree in Nursing or an advanced degree from a recognized and fully-accredited professional nursing program. Applicants must be residents of Winnebago, Outagamie, Calumet, Shawano, Waupaca, Waushara, Green Lake or Fond du Lac counties.
Sadly, Mr. Boehnlein passed away in 2009 at the age of 107, but his memory and the memory of his wives, Gretchen Johnson Boehnlein and Ruth Stowe Boehnlein, will live on through the scholarships awarded each year.
